About

Philip James  is an independent filmmaker, Director of Photography, Editor and Photographer based in Brighton. Coming from a photography background spanning three decades largely in the fashion arena, shooting campaigns for clients such as H&M, M&S, House of Fraser, TJ Collection (Moscow) along with editorial shoots for FHM, GQ, Marie Claire, Vogue, Maxim, Cosmopolitan, Tatler, The Daily Telegraph, The Times, and The Mail on Sunday. The transition into moving imagery was seemless, carrying all the creativity and vision gathered in those years.

A lifelong love of music both as a musician, and a fan, have lead to a natural path in music video production where inspirational artists have been sought to collaborate with. Philip is fascinated with light – the way light sneaks into a room through a cracked door, or falls on a person through a window, or creeps through the trees of a forest and accents the dust and atmosphere. These two passions are merged in his approach to cinematography through the deliberate use of composition, space and perspective and through thoughtful use of the quality, direction and color of light.  Philip believes the images he produces aren’t just there to serve the story but to be part of it., along with an easy going work ethic, making the creative process a joy to experience.
